A LONG TIME AGO
It seems like such a long time ago
And it seems like yesterday
When it seemed to go on for ever
But was over in a flash.
Little children running around
Now adults forging ahead.
And it’s us with the golden years in front
Because those who had them have left.
Once helping you into shoes and coats
And soon that will be your task.
Washing your faces and making your food.
And running with you on an endless beach.
Watching you grow and play and be happy
Loving and letting you go.
Watching the years as they quickly turn
Experiencing all that change brings.
Knowing that time is slipping by
Knowing we cannot return.
But when you walk with a small hand in yours
You’ll remember those summers that were.
