MEMORIES...
Like jewels or sweeties in tightly wrapped bundles
left in the dark until they begin to suddenly emit
their own peculiar shaft of sunlight as if
from nowhere.
And then they slowly unwind,
In one long painful moment or in a flash
of some hectic, burning colour.
Alive and stark.
Like now. Take note. They are here.
As if there was no yesterday.
A scent is quietly evoking, something ruminating, rumbling, dragging me
along the train track of a memory into a kaleidoscope of things once known.
A sound of a once known voice from a long way back.
A sight of something caught upon the retina of time like a fragment
torn from a long forgotten postcard.
A brush of a hand and skin upon skin.
Wrap the sweeties up now. Put the jewels away.
Hide tight.
Before they explode.
Keep safe. Until the next time when you take them out
to taste them once again.
Anew. Like it was yesterday.
